Psychological Safety (PS) is the foundation for an internal & external sense of security in a work environment, and is created when a corporate culture facilitates growth and authentic communication through valuing and respecting each individual’s experience.
Put simply: psychological safety is a measurable expression of empathy.
Empathy is often listed at the top of corporate core values, but we've found most organizations struggle to put it into practice. Their company culture informs the way they practice empathy instead of the other way around. As a result, we've partnered with The Culture Platform (TCP) to provide a concrete tool for leaders and managers to use to build an empathic corporate culture. We developed our leadership strategy into a unique culture survey to provide a data-informed framework for leadership teams to learn and grow.
Big picture, we believe leaders and managers create and practice empathy by asking themselves two core questions:
These two values (empowerment and integrity) are informed by what we believe to be the six foundational drivers of healthy, psychologically safe, high-performing teams:
We built our psychological safety survey to dive deeper into each of these drivers, which, in turn, drive our feedback model to help leaders and managers measure and maintain psychologically safe teams.
